1. Plan A Bit In Advance
A baby photo shoot needs a lot of planning and preparation. So first thing to start with is plan your baby photoshoot tentative date well in advance. It is suggested that you should plan at least 1-2 months in advance so that you have enough time to prepare things and make them in order. Planning in advance will give you enough time to think about ideas and accordingly plan for them. This will also give you an opportunity to look for possible location options in case you house is not equipped enough. So plan well in advance for your baby photo shoot and at least put a tentative week around 1-2 months down.

2. Finalize the Family Members To Be Involved
In Indian context, family is a very important bond that a baby shares. All family members fancies the idea about being apart of the baby photo shoot. But it gets very tricky in Indian family structure context as you cant invite a whole bunch of people to the photo shoot. So ensure that only limited number of family members are invited to be part of the photo shoot. It is important that your focus on the day of photo shoot is to ensure the comfort of the baby and photography aspects rather than managing the guests. So it is suggested that if you want to include family members, make it very limited participation like invite only grandparents only.
3. Learn the Basics of Photography
Nowadays we all are very familiar with taking pictures using our phone. But before doing your baby photo shoot, it is strongly suggested that you learn the basics of photography. I don’t suggest to become a master of photography subject, but it is recommended that you go through this content and try to understand the basics of photography. This learning will significantly transform the pictures being taken. Following are few good free resources to learn the basics of photography. I have tried to cover resources for both DSLR and camera based photography.

4. Finalize the Flow of Photoshoot
One of the most important thing to plan out is to chart out the flow of photoshoot. Plan out how many themes you are planning to utilize during the photoshoot. Also keep in mind that every theme planning and execution takes good amount of effort. So don’t get carried away with doing too many themes. You can get lot of baby photoshoot ideas from professional baby photographers portfolio. You can also check my portfolio here to get some ideas. I would also suggest to select the simple and easy to execute theme ideas. Its important to understand that executing a theme requires a lot of efforts and resources. So don’t get carried away with complex themes which requires lot of props etc. I would suggest to select simpler themes suiting to your baby personality. Also limit the number of themes to 2-4 only for your baby photoshoot.

5. Arrange Things for Themes
Once the themes are finalized for the photoshoot, plan to arrange required props for the theme. Dont get overwhelmed to replicate the theme completely. In case few things are not available, look for the alternatives. This is the time to be creative and add your own imagination in the theme. Make the theme unique as per your own imagination.
6. Finalize and Arrange the Space
Baby photoshoot requires a lot of open space to arrange the themes and camera angles. So try to find a room which can be emptied to create open space. Try to find the area which has access to the sun light which can be used during the photoshoot. Try to clear out the area at least 1 – 2 days in advance so that the theme can be setup and ready before the photoshoot.

8. Enjoy the Photoshoot
In order to have an amazing photo session, dont try to make it perfect, rather enjoy the session. If you will enjoy the shoot then the baby will also have fun. If you make this photoshoot as a job to finish then the family happiness won’t reflect in the pictures. So forget about everything and enjoy the moment. Don’t push the photoshoot to cover everything planned. Rather enjoy every moment to the fullest with the baby and capture life long memories
