How to Choose Theme for your Kid Photo Shoot
Every kid is unique and kids photo shoot is the best way to remember that uniqueness
While parents think about their kids photo shoot the most confusing question comes to their mind is what theme to use for photo session of their baby kid. Every parent want the best for their kid and this photo shoot being the first one of baby’s life, they want it to be perfect. Parents get overwhelmed because of the potential option for the kids photo shoot. So the biggest question remains open: Which theme to select for their kid photo shoot.
I have been doing kids photo shoot for many years and can completely understand the dilemma of parents. So thats why when I discuss photo shoot details with parents, one of the most important question I try to answer is what theme to choose.
So while there is no easy answer to this question, in this blog I have tried to detail out about how to choose the best theme best suited for your kid.
Understand Your Kid
First and foremost important aspect to start with is understand your kid. This is your kid photo shoot and you want the images to reflect the personality of your kid. In future, when you look at these pictures you want to go back to memory lane and remember how you kid used to be. So there is nothing more important than choosing the theme matching your kids style.
What Your Kid Like
One of the thing parents don’t consider while planning for kid photo shoot is that kids barely enjoy the photo session. Imagine someone asking you to smile and make poses for 2-3 hours. Last you would have done that is during marriage and we all remember how painful it is to smile all the time. Now imagine this for your kid within an unknown environment and a unknown person taking pictures. So for a parent, the focus during the photo session should be to ensure that their kid is as comfortable as possible.
Be assured that every kid will cry during the most of the time of duration as they dont feel uncomfortable in new environment while being pushed to smile and laugh. So while choosing the theme, make sure that you select the ones which your kid like to do. Parents should not select a theme and props which doesnt match with you kid personality. Imagine it from your kid perspective, for your kid all of these things are just toys. So follow the same approach you follow when selecting your kid toys.

Discuss with Photographer
One of the thing which most parent ignore when trying to choose the theme is to ignore the recommendation of the photographer. Please keep in mind that if you have selected a renowned professional photographer then that photographer would have done many photo session of kids. I can personally tell from my own experience based on the countless professional kids photo session done by me that parents feel that they know their kid and don’t like photographer photographer to help out in theme finalization process.
I strongly believe to have very detailed discussion with the parents and try to educate them about every aspect of the photo shoot. But I mostly see that parents are not very receptive in ideas about the selection of theme. Parents feel that they know their kid and they should decide the theme as per their own thoughts only. But I strongly recommend that parents to hear out the recommendations of photographer.
I have been doing kid photo session for many years and knows what works best for kids of a specific personality. So I request parents to tell me a lot about the kid in terms of their personality, likes and dislikes. Based on this I suggest couple of themes which will be interesting and fun for the kid.

Use the Photographer Creativity
I interacting with lot of parents for their kids photo shoot and few of them show very rigidity in terms of what they really want. While its ok to have a preference and idea at a broader level but I strongly recommend that parents should use the photographer creativity. Its the creativity of the photographer which will make your kid photo shoot a unique one.
Some parents look a theme somewhere or from photographer portfolio and insist on replicating the same one. What’s the point of replicating a theme when you kid is unique. So I recommend that suggest a theme but let the photographer use the creativity to make it a unique and special for your kid.

Relax and make it fun
In the end I would suggest that don’t be so much stressed about the selection of theme. While a fun theme is important but what is more important that your kid enjoys the photo shoot. So just pick up one which you feel your kid would like, listen to your photographer and let your photographer use its creativity and you will be all set.
