Tips for an amazing family portrait photoshoot
Nothing makes us happier than taking a million family photos. Trying to organize them all, however, it could get difficult – especially for all the busy parents out there. That’s when we come to the picture ( here in a literal sense!!) We know in this busy world, parents do not have much time to spare and conduct their own photoshoot for the family as there are multiple things to be taken into consideration for a successful photoshoot from outfits to location.
Family portraits do have a special space in the hearts of all the members of the family. It’s always fun to just look back at them and remember that time when you clicked all those amazing shots. These pictures are cherished forever. One could frame them in a big size canvas and put it in their room or if somebody is moving to some other city and leaving their family, they could always look at those fun pictures whenever they miss them.
Here are some family portrait ideas that could help you while getting clicked next time.
When to get clicked
Well there is no standardized age limit for getting clicked ever. Most of the people get clicked in their early stage of the family that is when their newborn baby has arrived. No professional photography sessions are held after their children’s first birthdays and until their weddings. But you could always get clicked even if your kids are around 15-18 years old. Even a better idea is to get clicked when your baby is around 3 years old and then when he/she is 13 years old. You could see a lot of changes in their features and as well as in yours too.
Candid Shots or Posing
You could always choose between a styled and polished portrait and a raw and candid one. Again, it’s a matter of personal preference. Make sure you let your photographer know about your choice before like 2-3 days of the shoot as they would have to prepare accordingly. As a matter of fact, different props are used according to the theme of the whole shoot.
Placements of your body, hands plays a great role in the final outcome of the picture. If you are looking for a professional portrait then you should have a proper posing done. You can get some great tips about posing here.
Location
For every photo session the photographers and the clients have two choices – outdoor and indoor. If you have any favorite place or someplace where you have a lot of memories with your family then you could just ask your photographer to shoot your family portraits there itself. Indoor shoots could be done both in the studio or at home wherever you feel comfortable.

Outfits
Try wearing your outfits according to the theme or location. For example, if you have scheduled a shoot at your own place, then do wear something very comfortable like the clothes that you regularly wear in your home. And if your shoot location is in some studio or outdoor location like parks or monuments then you could wear some plain yet elegant clothes. Try avoiding printed clothes as it distracts the viewer from the face or location behind. And to just spice it up a little bit you could try wearing matching clothes. You all could be twinning!
Post Editing
Post editing of pictures is equally important to bring out the amazing effect out of your portraits. There are some great tools out there which you can use for post editing effects on your pictures. If you have photoshop then you can use these free family photoshop actions to bring out some amazing effects or you can use these free Lightroom presets for post editing of pictures. While doing the post editing, please keep in mind that your editing style should be inline with your photo shoot theme.
